Ideal Home Show

As another start to the week begins in I reflect back on the previous week and the things that we have been up to. As business continues to thrive the workshop have been busy manufacturing some precise bespoke products. We have a fabulous Maple End Grain worktop that is currently about to go in to production. The lead time for such a wonderful yet complex piece is anywhere from 4 weeks. To start the timber needs to be dried further to reduce the moisture content to as minimal percentage as possible and this can take up to two weeks before it is even glued and cut to shape. Alongside this we have some beautiful personalised trays that are going to be sent to Briarfield’s next week made in our American Hardwood White Oak.

There has also been a lot of talk in office about the Ideal Home Show that I had the delights of being able to go to at Earl’s Court. The atmosphere was electric and there were many design fanatics all excited to see what the latest trends were. I was particularly transfixed by certain areas of the garden section. Something that has become apparent to me is that designers are now trying to find a way of bringing the inside out. In previous years there has been a hot trend for bringing the outdoors in and while this is still ever present it is becoming ostensible to me that we would also like to bring our home comforts to our outside environments. This is done through painting the outdoor walls to a ceiling height, bringing indoor furniture out and a clever display of foliage.

Something else that was clear to me while I was at the Idea Home Show is that there is one design material that never tires, it doesn’t matter what other trends are occurring it always carries a strong presence. What am I referring to you wonder? Timber. Timber is a material that is used throughout endless design areas – be it architecturally, furniture based or in our external environments; it is always there in attendance. As I’ve mentioned in previous blogs, timber is a very timeless and classic material that can be manipulated in a multitude of ways and it is with great thanks to this that Norfolk Oak products will continue to thrive. Whatever your choice, you can be rest assured that you have invested in a beautiful piece that is not only elegant but lovingly crafted with the upmost attention to detail that reflects years of hard work, experience and dedication. Wherever you choose to display your bespoke Norfolk Oak piece you can be confident that it is certainly not going to un-trend and that it will be a talking point for years to come.

With the current economic climate still struggling to climb out of recession; designers have been forced to focus on much more than just what looks good in the here and now but to become much more focused on staying within budget and creating a design that will continue to flourish as time goes on. So if you’ve been battling with the difficult decision of what material to use, be it for your own home, a work space or other design project ask yourself the following question; Would you rather spend vast sums of money on something that will cost you even more money when it goes out of fashion in a year or two, or would you rather spend that hard earned vast sum on something that has been proven not to go out of fashion and that will continue to stay on point for many years?

I Know Which One I’d choose But

Which Would You Opt For?
