RAF West Raynham

Unlike many businesses, Norfolk oak has the pleasure of moving from one historic place to another. Anmer hall, which is soon to be faced with royalty once more, to historic, rustic RAF West Raynham. The old air force station was built between 1938 and 1939, where the queen’s men prepare for world war two.

Rapier DomeThe site covers roughly 2,770,000 square metres and within it, it contains several landmarks such as: two runways, 42 officer houses, 130 married quarter houses, a small family centre, officer’s mess, barrack blocks, technical buildings and four hangars. There were roughly about 2,456 gentlemen and 658 women that remained at the station all of which played a large part within world war two. The accommodation, communities and headquarters are located west of the runway.

RAF west Raynham was considered to be heavily stocked with bombs; this was down to the RAF Bomb command which flew missions from the station. The ammo was stored in the south east of the site, away from the accommodation to prevent risks and damage.

Although the station was shut down in 1994, Norfolk Oak now get the privilege to experience the history and stories our hangar four has to share. Our Hangar is roughly 35000 square feet and around 1.5 million cubic feet. We are currently in mid-process of moving in and even now it is showing its full potential.
