We can all picture the scene, it is dark outside, the rain is falling heavily and you’re all wrapped up warm inside. There is no feeling quite like it in my opinion. I love nothing better than to be snuggled with a blanket on my sofa, fire lit and film on. The only thing that frustrates me is when you have to keep getting up to put more logs on the fire. It always seems to happen just as I’ve reached a comfortable daze.
Thankfully I have found a solution to this. That solution is called Briquettes. Norfolk Oak Briquettes burn for longer durations of time than logs meaning that I get to sit comfortably for that little bit longer. Yes of course I could opt for an electric fire but for me, this just does not cut the mustard so to speak! The briquettes are only machined from our hardwoods. The stock is kiln dried in the USA to around 7% making it bone dry. This is important because it means that there is virtually no residual ash, burns with almost zero smoke and most importantly means that you are investing in almost pure energy to burn – over 6kw per kg. This is perfect for me because I love for things to be clean and this way I spend less time cleaning and more time indulging in my own hobbies.
The Briquettes are incredibly durable to the point where you can use them as a stress ball and throw them up against a wall without them breaking. This demonstrates that they don’t fall apart keeping your home tidy and your fuel at its upmost efficient. As they are brick shaped it allows for you to easily stack them and most importantly, they burn hot and slow to as good as quality as coal.
Another fantastic element of these Briquettes is that they are a product of our own saw dust. This means that they are composed only of the highest quality woods that we use for our furniture and hardwoods. We use no other product as it significantly reduces the quality. A hardwood briquette may weigh the same as a softwood briquette but this softwood version that is out there produces a lot less heat and a lot less energy.
As you may know from previous blogs of mine, the environment and its sustainability is at the core of Norfolk Oak. As a result of this, our Briquettes are made from our own sawdust and shavings. We produce thousands of bespoke wood worktops and furniture each year resulting in tons and tons of sawdust and shavings as a waste product. As a result of this we have installed a dust extraction system that covers the entirety of our workshop and feeds directly into our briquetter. The briquettes are made on site, meaning that there is no additional carbon footprint in taking them to a second site for processing.
So how do you get them? Each bag weighs around 25kg and they can either be collected from ourselves or ordered for delivery via the telphone. The number for this is 01485 600 555.
For me, this was the perfect discovery. I now get to sit with my partner on the sofa in those cold evening’s all settled with a cup of tea, snacks and film while feeling warm and cosy. We no longer need to ‘rock, paper, scissor’ whose turn it is to keep the fire alight because we rarely need to budge from our oh so comfy positions, that is now left for whose making the next brew and that is something that I won’t be complaining about!
